(If the man wrote labels on ketchup bottles, I'd read those!) After I collected all 7 books, I read the whole series over again at least 30 times. Therefore I read my favorites repeatedly. I mean, like mad-crazy, lightening-quick kind of fast.) So I run out of books quickly. I'm one of those freaks of nature who can read extremely fast. (I'm on my 4th copy of "the Stand" cuz I've read it so many times I messed up the covers. I have read the DT books, and ALL of S.K.'s books, over and over again. I've waited, for years sometimes, for the next part of the story. I've been reading this story since I was just out of High School, when "The Gunslinger" came out. What I loved the most about William Steig’s writing is his ability to use extremely advanced words but makes those advanced words flow beautifully with the story and also making the story sound so exotic. Oh my goodness! I have to catch my breath here! When I mentioned that this book is simply breathtaking, it really took my breath away! William Steig has certainly done an excellent job at both writing and illustrating this story about the importance of true friendship. “Amos and Boris” is truly a beautiful children’s book that will be an instant favorite among children for many years! I have been reading William Steig’s works ever since I was little and now I have just recently read his most heartwarming book yet, “Amos and Boris.” “Amos and Boris” is a children’s book by William Steig which is about a small and adventurous mouse named Amos who finds a friend in a huge whale named Boris when Amos was lost at sea and Boris saves his life. It is true that the ending of slavery in the South was NOT Lincoln's priority, in large measure because he shared the prevailing view that its presence there was part of the compact by which the Constitution was hammered out and adopted. I appreciated how professor Guelzo both traced Lincoln's growth in understanding of the major issues of his time as well has stressed those many factors which were seemingly present in Lincoln from the beginning, including his voracious appetite for reading, curiosity about apparently everything, simple human decency, and an unwillingness to ever see the mistreatment - let alone enslavement - of other human beings as anything other than a great evil. It is sadly unthinkable that a man like Abraham Lincoln could today in our own fractured times even be considered as a candidate for high office, both because in our television and influence dominated age his looks would disqualify him but also because he had such solid ethics and such high-minded principles. Lincoln in this short 12-lecture course, but also so many others whom Lincoln encountered and/or impressed. A wonderful overview of a great man! Although the Great Courses feature many, many fine teachers and superb lecturers, none surpasses Allen Guelzo (at least in my opinion) for his dynamic style in which he brings to life notably Mr. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan so was 9/11. A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable it carries a massive impact and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The other books in the series are Fooled by Randomness, Antifragile, Skin in the Game, and The Bed of Procrustes. The Black Swan is a standalone book in Nassim Nicholas Taleb's landmark Incerto series, an investigation of opacity, luck, uncertainty, probability, human error, risk, and decision-making in a world we don't understand.
